Zhirayr Reyisian: “Syrian-Armenians are also concerned about Turkish troops’ operations in Afrin”
According to Syrian-Armenian Member of the People’s Council of Syria Zhirayr Reyisian, like all Syrians, the Syrian-Armenians are also concerned about the Turkish troops’ military operations in Afrin.
In an interview with Tert.am, Reyisian stated that any issue that concerns Syrians is a matter of concern for Syrian-Armenians as well.
“Today, Afrin, which is not far from Aleppo, is under attack, and Syria officially condemns it and is calling on the international family to put an end to Turkish aggression and suspend the assaults,” he said.
According to him, the Syrian-Armenians are engaged in all this. “The current situation concerns us all, but we still have good expectations,” he mentioned.
When asked if Syrian-Armenians are afraid that the relative peace in Syria might be disturbed, Zhirayr Reyisian said the following: “We no longer use the word “fear” because the people have become strongly convinced throughout the past seven years and are certain that there will eventually be peace, that their desires will be fulfilled and that justice will be restored. So, no matter what difficulty they face, the people will show persistence to circumvent and make the transition to good times along with their leadership,” he said.
On January 20, Turkish armed forces launched the military operation against the Kurds’ national armed detachments (PYD/YPG) located in northern Syria that was referred to as Operation Olive Branch. On January 21, after the first air attacks, the servicemen of the Turkish armed forces took the large-scale offensive on land as well. It is known that the Turkish armed forces are supported by the oppositional Syrian Free Army group, just like during the Operation Euphrates Shield launched in 2016.
