Armenian army acquires Igla-S man-portable surface-to-air missiles

Over the past year, the anti-air defense systems of the frontline military units of the Armenian armed forces have been replenished with state-of-the-art equipment, including quite a large batch of Igla-S and Igla-Super man-portable surface-to-air missiles.

This is what Deputy Head of the Armed Anti-Air Defense Troops, Colonel Arthur Poghosyan told “Hay Zinvor” (Armenian Soldier), the official newspaper of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia. “This is a large replenishment. It will ensure quite a large density of fire. This equipment will also help create a strong anti-missile system. Igla-S is the best in its category. It is a high-precision missile. The head is quite sensitive and can also detect drones that serve as a small heat source,” he said.

According to Arthur Poghosyan, Igla-S can respond to a large range of rocket launchers and has the ability to respond to the entire range of airborne targets.

“The Igla-S complexes that we acquired are new, and we will not have any problems for many years to come. Our detachments of the Igla-S complexes are secured with mobile features, that is, they are ready to fulfill any task under any conditions, even at night since they are complemented with the Mowgli telescopic sight,” Colonel Poghosyan stated.
