On October 10, the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Canada hosted an official reception dedicated to the 26^th anniversary of  Independence of the Republic of Armenia and to the 25^th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Canada, reported the press service of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Hayern Aysor.

Among the participants were clergymen, the ambassadors of nearly 15 countries accredited to Canada, high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada, public and political figures, diplomats, leaders of Armenian community organizations, several Canadian-Armenians and journalists.

In his speech, RA Ambassador to Canada Levon Martirosyan addressed the achievements that the Republic of Armenia has made over the past 26 years and the obstacles it has overcome on the way. The Ambassador attached special importance to the role that the Armenian Diaspora and particularly the Armenian community of Canada have played in Armenia’s development over the past 26 years.

Emphasizing the fact that the year is unique in that it marks the 25^th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Canada, the Ambassador talked about the several events held and to be held on that occasion in Armenia and Canada and the latest developments of the bilateral relations. “Today, Armenian-Canadian relations are growing dynamically in the spheres of politics, economy, culture and other fields of mutual interest. We actively collaborate with several international organizations, particularly within the scope of the International Organization of La Francophonie,” the Ambassador stated in his speech.

The event featured performances of the works of proclaimed Armenian songwriters by pianist Marlen Bakmazian.

After the event, Ambassador Martirosyan gave an interview to the Armenian television program in Ottawa. In the interview, the Ambassador talked about the events dedicated to the 26^th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia and the future developments of the relations between Armenia and Canada.
