Holy Mass to be served in Izmir after 95-year interval

On August 14, the Armenians of Izmir will be organizing a Holy Mass for the first time in 95 years, reported Agos Weekly.
The Holy Mass will be held at St. John Cathedral in Izmir and will be served by spiritual leader of the St. Hovhan Voskeberan Armenian Catholic Church, Archbishop Vartan Kazanchian.
Among the participants will be the choir of the St. Hovhan Voskeberan Armenian Catholic Church and members of the local Armenian community.
This Holy Mass is the first one held after the Great Fire of Smyrna that began on 13 September 1922 and lasted for four days.
Turkish troops set Smyrna (modern-day Izmir) on fire four days after besieging the city.
