President of the Federation of Armenian Organizations of the Netherlands and Abovyan Armenian Cultural Union visits the RA Ministry of Diaspora

On November 23, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan received President of the Federation of Armenian Organizations of the Netherlands and Abovyan Armenian Cultural Union Mato Hakhverdyan and his wife, head of the April 24th Committee of the Federation and secretary of Abovyan Armenian Cultural Union Inga Drost.
Greeting the guests, Minister Hranush Hakobyan attached importance to the pro-Armenian activities of the Federation of Armenian Organizations of the Netherlands, particularly the April 24th Committee and noted the praiseworthy lobbying efforts that the Federation has made throughout the past couple of years.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the need to show active participation in the “What are YOU doing for Karabakh?” pan-Armenian movement, touched upon the problems facing Armenians today (Armenia’s economic development, the Artsakh issue, the issues of Syrian-Armenians), discussed future cooperation and organizational issues and indicated the future actions.
The Federation of Armenian Organizations of the Netherlands is a legal organization that actively lobbies and represents the Armenian community for the country’s authorities. Thanks to its efforts, in 2004, the community raised the issue of the Armenian Genocide in the Parliament of Holland. In 2006, the community had the names of Turkish candidates denying the Armenian Genocide removed from the electoral list. This caused uproar in the Netherlands and sparked great reactions in different countries around the world. On December 6, 2016, based on another appeal filed by the community, there will be another trial over the case of an Azerbaijani that has given a speech against the Armenians. The organization is preparing to give a speech as the appealing side.
