Swedish-Armenian community expecting Swedish government’s position on the Armenian Genocide

The Armenian community of Sweden is expecting the Swedish government’s position on the Armenian Genocide this year.

This is what spokesman for the Armenian Associations in Sweden Vahagn Avedian mentioned in an interview with “Armenpress”. “In 2010, the Parliament of Sweden recognized the Armenian Genocide and called on the government to express its position as well.

The former government didn’t do anything, but the incumbent government has said it will express its position during the year. We are following the process and are expecting the government to express its position this year,” Vahagn Avedian said.

According to him, efforts are made for recognition of the Armenian Genocide on a regular basis, and active efforts were made last year. Swedish presses published many articles and reports on the Armenian Genocide. “We need to work actively with the Sweden-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group. It is safe to say that their activity also depends on our activity, and we plan on working in that direction. I believe the issue of Artsakh must also be discussed along with the issue of the Armenian Genocide, especially since we saw the discussion on the two anti-Armenian reports in the PACE,” Vahagn Avedian added. The spokesman for the Armenian Associations in Sweden mentioned that the issue facing Syrian-Armenian migrants is also important for the Armenian community. Many Syrian-Armenians recently reached Sweden.

“We try to help them solve different issues, and there are a lot of issues, including material, educational and issues related to documentation,” Vahagn Avedian said, noting that the Armenian associations in Sweden are involved with setting up Armenian Saturday and Sunday schools.
