US ambassador: Armenia has rich culture and tragic history

The ceremony of the official swearing-in of the 39 new volunteers of the US Peace Corps was held Thursday in Armenia.  After the training course, these volunteers will head for the country’s various regions, where they will live and work for two years within the framework of the two Peace Corps programs: Teaching English, and community and youth development.

US Ambassador Richard Mills, addressing these volunteers at the ceremony, noted that even though they represent a superpower in Armenia, they also have the honor of temporarily living in this strong country which is rich in culture and tragic history, and was able to survive despite the incessant clashes between the East and the West. Over 950 US Peace Corps volunteers have served in Armenia, ever since 1992.
