Cannes Festival award winner to play in performance on Armenian Genocide in Venice

The play on Armenian Genocide, entitled “Let there be peace in the eastern part of the world” will be staged in Venice on June 24. The name of the play is taken from the first line of the poem ��?Andalus’ (Armenian church rite, praying for the peace in the whole world) by 20th century Armenian poet Daniel Varoujan.
The play is organized by Mkhitarian congregation in Venice [major Armenian religious and cultural center in Italy]. The entrance to the play is free. Philanthropists Joseph and Jennifer Oughourlian contributed to the play, Cultura Spettacolo Venezia reports.
The stage director will be Marco Belussi. Among the performers will be Ottavia Piccolo, winner of the Best Actress award at the 1970 Cannes Film Festival.
The authors of the play will present their perspective on the mass killings of 1915. The play will include the recollections of the witnesses, excerpts from the works of Armenian, Turkish and German writers, as well as Armenian and Turkish folk songs.
The plot does not only commemorate, but it’s also trying to create atmosphere of dialogue, the underline reads.
