Event dedicated to 26th anniversary of Sumgait pogroms held in Bulgaria
On Feb. 28, wreaths were laid in memory of the victims of the Sumgait pogroms during a commemoration event held by the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Bulgaria near the monument to the victims of Armenian Genocide at the Armenian cemetery in Sofia.
A Requiem Mass was served by Vicar of the Armenian Apostolic Church of Bulgaria, Archimandrite Abgar Hovakimyan.
In his speech, RA Ambassador to Bulgaria Arsen Shoyan particularly mentioned that Azerbaijan had implemented brutal ethnic cleansing, a policy on deportation of the Armenian population and organized a crime against the Armenians. “The international community still hasn’t given a full legal and political evaluation of the events, but is doing everything possible to conceal the crime and distort the reality,” said Ambassador Shoyan.
Among other speakers were Vice-Chairman of the Armenian National Committee Vardanush Topakbashyan and Chairman of AGBU Sofia Chapter Sonya Avagyan, reports the RA MFA press office to “Hayern Aysor”.
