The exceptional Hasmik Papyan performed the song of Tosca

One of the unique masterpieces of world opera, Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca opera was presented during a concert in Armenia.

On Feb. 11, one of the world’s most famous performers of Tosca, singer Hasmik Papyan performed with the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra led by artistic director and principal conductor Eduard Topchyan at Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall. The singer always charms audiences with her performance, and this time was no exception.

Several famous soloists, including Hovhannes Ayvazyan, David Babayants and Hasmik Papyan’s brother, Hrant Papyan performed in the opera representing a love story with a tragic ending,

The concert version of the opera was dedicated to the memory of Honorable Artist of the Republic of Armenia, Professor of Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory Rafael Hakobyants.

In the beginning, Italian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Giovanni Ricciuli expressed gratitude to the organizers and the musicians of the Philharmonic. “Cultural cooperation is very important in the context of cooperation between the two countries since it provides the opportunity to get to know each other. In Armenia’s case, this becomes more symbolic because our countries are very similar. The main characters of the Tosca opera are free souls. Tosca is a very modern and liberal woman,” the Ambassador mentioned, reports “ArmenPress”.

The event included performances by Hover Chamber Choir (artistic director and principal conductor Sona Hovhannisyan) and Speghani Choir (artistic director and conductor Marine Avtandilyan).

Tosca was last performed in Armenia nearly 50 years ago. The musicians of the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra and their artistic director and principal conductor Eduard Topchyan were preparing for this event with great motivation. Topchyan was especially pleased with the fact that the Philharmonic was performing with Hasmik Papyan, who is one of the world’s best performers of Tosca.

Fans of Tosca will have the chance to enjoy the opera again on Feb. 13.

Famous Italian opera composer Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca opera is one of the operas that is staged most frequently. The Italian libretto for the three-act opera was written on the basis of Victorien Sardur’s homonymous poem. The opera was first presented on January 14, 1900 and was a great success. Puccini is considered one of the greatest opera composers after Verdi.
