On June 1, the Satkha village of Ninotsminda celebrated the 100th anniversary of the heroic battle of Satkha with a grand event attended by Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Georgia Ruben Sadoyan and the entire staff of the Armenian Embassy.
As reported the press service of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Georgia to Hayern Aysor, in his congratulatory message, Sadoyan attached importance to the significance of the heroic battle of Satkha and called on further popularization of that heroic episode of the village’s history since there is a need for the public to be more informed about the heroic battle.
Primate of the Georgian-Armenian Diocese, Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan began his speech by reading the Writ of Blessing of His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians and expressed his kind wishes and congratulatory remarks to the attendees.
There were also speeches by the organizers of the festive event, historian and ethnographer Artyusha Sanosyan and Albert Isoyan and others.
The events dedicated to the 100th anniversary in the village began early in the morning with various sporting events.
Reference: In 1918, with the aim of conquering Tbilisi, the 5th Turkish Division headed towards Javakhk, but faced the resistance of the residents of Satkha village. The militia detachments, which were joined by groups of volunteers of the other villages, stopped the Turkish army and ensured the residents’ move to Tsalka and closed the enemy’s path to Tbilisi. After the heroic battles of Sardarapat, Bash-Aparan and Gharakilisa, the residents of Satkha village heroically suspended the Turkish army’s advancement through the heroic battle of Satkha.
Hundreds of Armenian fighters died, making the enemy suffer great casualties and preventing complete massacre of the Armenians of Javakhk and leading the enemy’s plan to conquer Tbilisi to failure.
Since 2003, the Sanosyan family has been marking the day of the heroic battle of Satkha. Upon the decision of the Sakrebulo (city council) of Ninotsminda, it has received a state status.
