Grand event dedicated to 149th birth anniversary of Hovhannes Tumanyan held in Tbilisi

On February 19, Tbilisi hosted a grand event dedicated to the 149th birth anniversary of Armenian writer Hovhannes Tumanyan. The personnel of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Georgia also participated in the event.
As reported the press service of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Georgia to Hayern Aysor, the events kicked off at the Khojivank Pantheon of Armenian writers and public figures of Tbilisi where the attendees laid flowers in front of the tombstone of Hovhannes Tumanyan and Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Georgia, Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan performed a Requiem Service. Afterwards, according to the tradition established by poet Anahit Bostanjyan, books were donated to the attendees as part of Book Donation Day.
The events continued at the “Home of Hovhannes Tumanyan” Center for Literature and Culture in Tbilisi where the solemn opening ceremony of the local puppet theater was held.
The staff of the House-Museum of Hovhannes Tumanyan and the crew of Tbilisi’s Petros Adamian Tbilisi State Armenian Drama Theater performed a puppet show based on Hovhannes Tumanyan’s work “The Dog and the Cat”.
In his speech following the performance, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Georgia, Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan highlighted the role and significance of culture, adding that the establishment of the puppet theater will convey something new to cultural life of the Armenians in Tbilisi.
On behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Georgia, Spokesman of the Embassy Harutyun Hayrapetyan thanked the organizers and highlighted the importance of holding Armenian cultural events outside of the homeland.
Among other speakers were Head of Erebouni Administrative District of Yerevan Davit Grigoryan, Chairperson of the District Council of Isani District of Tbilisi Kakha Labuchidze, Director of Hovhannes Tumanyan State Puppet Theater of Yerevan Ruben Babayan, Deputy Director of the House-Museum of Hovhannes Tumanyan Ani Yeghiazaryan, Artistic Director of Petros Adamian Tbilisi State Armenian Drama Theater Armen Baianduryan, Editor of Georgia newspaper Van Baiburtyan and others.
