Hrant Dink Foundation releases new report on manifestations of hatred in Turkish press, Armenians targeted in 247 articles

The Istanbul-based Hrant Dink Foundation has released a new report on manifestations of hatred in the Turkish press. As reported demokrathaber.org, based on the Foundation’s observations, Jews and Syrian immigrants have been the target of nationalist presses the most in the past couple of months.
The report states that, in the period between May and August 2017, Turkish presses have released 1,910 pieces of news and articles containing manifestations of hatred against ethnic and religious groups, featuring 2,466 racist and nationalist expressions.
The 146-page report, which was prepared by by members of the task force in charge of implementation of the Manifestations of Hatred in the Press Project of the Dink Foundation (Funda Tekin, Pinar Ensari, Merve Nebioglu and Ezgi Kan), draws attention to the fact that the Geneva Conference in Cyprus, the Turkish-Greek marine crises, the blockade of Qatar by Persian Gulf countries, the clashes that took place in Palestine, the decision on the authorities of the Netherlands being partially responsible for the massacre in Srebrenitsa, the attacks against Rohingya Muslims and the 95th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Dumlupınar (celebrated in Turkey on 29 August) have had their impact on the statistics.
Overall, over the past couple of months, there have been 493 articles targeted against Jews, 472 articles containing manifestations of hatred against Syrian immigrants, 256 articles or pieces of news with negative reflections on the Greeks of Greece, 247 articles targeted against Armenians and another 212 articles or pieces of news targeted against the Greeks of Turkey.
The most manifestations of hatred can be found in the Turkish Yeni Akit, Milli Gazete, Yeni Mesazh, Yeni Konya, Istiklal and Bursa Sanjak periodicals, writes tert.am.
