Early Christian mausoleum discovered in premises of Upper Mosque Spiritual School in Shushi
July 7th marked the launch of restoration of the Upper Mosque Spiritual School in Shushi.
This is what Deputy Director of the State Service for Protection of Historical Environment SNCO Nzhdeh Yeranyan said in an interview with Artsakhpress.
“A couple of days ago, an early Christian mausoleum was discovered during fortification of the foundations of the building. This is an exclusive discovery in the citadel and another fact that helps refute Azerbaijan’s claims about the era in which Shushi was built. During fortification of the foundation of Medrese, builders noticed stones, and after they removed them, they discovered a skeleton. Works have been terminated for the time being, and we have informed the Service about this. An early Christian stone sepulture has been validated in Togh. Construction works have been terminated in that sector. It is envisaged to excavate the entire sepulture, and after construction works, it will be possible to showcase it in the same way,” Yeranyan said.
