Maria Kaprielian: “Armenian presses shouldn’t cite the news about Aleppo from random people”

Hayern Aysor presents the speech by correspondent for Aleppo’s Kantsasar Weekly Maria Kaprielian, who was one of the participants of the 8th Pan-Armenian Forum of Journalists (“Armenian Statehood: Axis of Unity”) organized by the RA Ministry of Diaspora.

“My speech is more of a concern that I would like to share with you. I have had this concern for the past six years of the Syrian war, but now, it is a greater concern due to the military operations in Aleppo. Of course, Armenian presses have always expressed their sorrow and concerns, and we Armenians of Aleppo are grateful for that. However, due to poor work, the situation is becoming worse and is making our work harder.

Unfortunately, recently there were newspapers and even radio stations that took news about the situation in Aleppo from random people with different interests and generalized the information.

The Armenians of Aleppo have a newspaper, that is, Kantsasar Weekly. We also have a radio station, an Emergency Unit, as well as national and religious organizations. The Ministry of Diaspora follows the news as well. So, there is no need to address random people for news.

If you are not in Aleppo and aren’t working there, don’t give yourself the right to contact random people and say how the situation in Aleppo is.

Thus, I would like to ask all media outlets not to cite the news about Aleppo from random people. You all have your data and can contact Kantsasar Weekly, but if it is impossible, contact the Ministry of  Diaspora, which is always in contact with Kantsasar Weekly.”
