RA Ministry of Diaspora hosted teleconference with representatives of the Armenian community of Jordan

The RA Ministry of Diaspora hosted a teleconference with representatives of the Armenian community of Jordan. Among the participants from Armenia were RA Deputy Minister of Diaspora Serzh Srapionyan, Head of the Department for Armenian Communities of the Near East and Middle East Levon Antonyan and employees of the Department.
Representing the Armenian community of Jordan were Chairman of the Armenian Genocide Centennial Jordan Committee, Chairman of the Armenian Athletic Union of Amman and Chairman of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party (Ramgavar) Jordan Regional Committee Nerses Nersesian, members of the Regional Committee Hagop Hagopian, Garo Herdemian (member of Homenetmen Jordan Regional Committee), Hagop Serpekian, Bedros Vartanian, Arsineh Jambazian (Vice-Chairwoman of the ARS Jordan Regional Committee), Bedros Aslanian (member of Homenetmen Jordan Regional Committee) and Maral Nersesian (Vice-Chairwoman of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party (Ramgavar) Youth Central Unit).
During the teleconference, the sides discussed the events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide and organized within the Armenian community of Jordan. The members of the community mentioned that they were planning on organizing a concert and panel discussions dedicated to Sayat-Nova’s 300th birthday anniversary by the end of this year and that they were particularly going to present a lecture entitled “Cross-Stones”. To this day, the Armenian community of Jordan has organized disciplinary events with the titles “How the Turks distort history”, “Origin of traditional Armenian political parties”, “The role of the Church during the Genocide”, “The Treaty of Sevres and the Treaty of Lausanne”, “The symbol of May 28th” and other titles. The community is planning on holding an Armenian film festival.
During the teleconference, the sides also discussed issues on engaging members of the Armenian community of Jordan in the programs organized by the RA Ministry of Diaspora. Deputy Minister Serzh Srapionyan welcomed the participation of 16 students of the Yuzbashian-Gulbenkian School of Amman in the fourth stage of the “Ari Tun” Program of the RA Ministry of Diaspora.
The Jordanian-Armenians mentioned that the community would continue to show active participation in the programs of the RA Ministry of Diaspora. In particular, Jordan’s Yerevan Choir will be participating in the “We Sing Komitas” Pan-Armenian Festival to be held in Yerevan on September 25-27 with the accompaniment of Hagop Hagopian and Maral Nersesian, and Nerses Nersesian will take part in the 3rd Pan-Armenian Forum of Architects to be held in Yerevan on October 5-7.
Touching upon the 6th Pan-Armenian Summer Games taking place in Armenia, the Jordanian-Armenian participants of the teleconference attached importance to such pan-national events and proper coverage of those events.
The participants of the teleconference expressed their willingness to make sure the active cooperation between the RA Ministry of Diaspora and the Armenian community of Jordan continues.
