RA Ministry of Diaspora receives invaluable gifts from Aleppo

On January 14, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan received Armenia’s Consul General in Aleppo Tigran Gevorgyan, who was visiting the ministry with a very important mission. Gevorgyan had brought to the RA Ministry of Diaspora Sosseh Baronian’s contribution in memory of her parents, Movses and Margaret Baronians. The 14 antique books were saved from elimination and transferred from Kharberd to Syria by her relatives, who survived the Armenian Genocide.

The minister expressed gratitude for the valuable gift and particularly said: “I’m more than grateful to Sosseh Baronian, the patriotic girl for keeping and preserving these relics for decades and helping bring them to the Homeland 100 years after the Armenian Genocide. These books will be handed over to the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran) and will become an inexhaustible source for scholars. This is a great gift for the Armenians in the beginning of this symbolic year.”

The minister expressed gratitude to the General Consulate in Aleppo, the emergency unit, Jirair Reyisian and, of course, Armenia’s Consul General in Aleppo Tigran Gevorgyan for combining their efforts to bring the gift to Armenia.

During the meeting, the sides talked about the problems and difficulties facing Armenians in Syria. The minister expressed her support to the Armenians suffering in Syria, surviving in the difficult conditions and preserving the Armenian identity.
