Switzerland discussing appeal against ECHR’s verdict in relation to Dogu Perincek case

Switzerland may file a lawsuit and appeal the verdict of the European Court of Human Rights in relation to Turk nationalist figure Dogu Perincek before March 15th. According to Switzerland’s Ambassador to Armenia Lucas Gaser, Switzerland is seriously discussing the issue.
Switzerland’s decision on this matter remains unclear.
During a press conference, Lucas Garcia gave a very general response in relation to the ECHR’s verdict, mentioning that he and every citizen of Switzerland took the news about the verdict bad. “When the Swiss government takes a decision in relation to Dogu Perincek’s case, we’ll announce it via the presses,” said the Ambassador, according to “ArmenPress”.
The European Court of Human Rights has upheld the lawsuit of leader of the Labor Party Dogu Perincek, who was acknowledged as guilty by the Swiss court for denying the Armenian Genocide. In 2008, the Swiss court sentenced Perincek to three months for denial of the Armenian Genocide, after which the court replaced the sentencing with an administrative fine. The European Court of Human Rights justified Dogu’s lawsuit by the fact that the Swiss court has violated Articles 7 and 10 of the European Convention on Freedom of Speech.
