The Armenian Diocese of Beirut has given New Year and Christmas presents to the Aleppo-Armenian families having newborns.
The packages, handed to the families at a special ceremony, included milk, household items and clothing, reports a statement posted on the Facebook page of a local new outlet.
The idea, which was earlier proposed by the diocesean prelate, Bishop Shahan Sargisyan, received support by church organizations and individuals who offered their material assistance.
In a welcoming speech, Priest Tatev Mikaelyan thanked all those who lent material and moral support to the project, considering the younger generation their hope and future.
“The cry of the 100 infants gathered in the church symbolizes life. Their innocent life inspires hope,” he said.
The Bishop later welcomed those present, saying that God keeps giving new lives to people despite the continuing war in Syria. “This life is not just flesh and bones, but also the God’s tangible and perceptible hope in your arms,” he told the crowd.
The bishop said the function was a special message to the humankind that Aleppo continues to live and look to the future with hope despite the difficulties.
“These children’s birth is the best proof of the continuing life and the belief in seeing the country prosperous,” he said.
