Lectures devoted to Islamized Armenians of Turkey held in Los Angeles

On November 13, scientific worker of the Center for Western Armenian Studies, Turkologist and Candidate of Historical Sciences Meline Anumyan delivered a lecture devoted to the Islamized Armenians and Armenian-speaking gypsies of Turkey at Glendale Central Library. The lecture was hosted by the Armenian Rights Council and Nor Or Armenian Weekly.

In her lecture, Anumyan presented the process of forceful assimilation of Armenians during and after the Armenian Genocide, as well as the issues of Islamized Armenians and Armenian-speaking gypsies in Turkey, focusing primarily on the issues of Hamshen-Armenians and the identity issue. The speaker also touched upon the fundamental results of her field studies conducted in Hamshen in 2015 and 2016 (the studies are devoted to the Hamshen-Armenians and Armenian-speaking gypsies residing in the Ardvin and Rize states of Turkey).

Anumyan will give two other lectures, including a lecture devoted to Hamshen and Hamshen-Armenians at Krikor and Mariam Karamanoukian Youth Center in Glendale (16 November) and another lecture entitled “The Armenian Genocide in the Documents of the Trial of the Young Turks” at TCA Beshgyotyurian Hall in Pasadena (20 November).
