Singer/songwriter Samvel Galstyan gave concerts in Uruguay and Argentina

From August 1 to 14, Professor of the Chair of Armenian Singing and Folk Instruments at Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, singer and songwriter Samvel Galstyan gave concerts in front of packed audiences and received warm rounds of applause in Uruguay and Argentina. The concerts were held with the support of the Ministry of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia.

The first concert was held in Montevideo and was dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Armenian Radio Arax of Uruguay, and the second concert was held in Buenos Aires.

“The concerts were great. I have returned with wonderful impressions. I was amazed and felt proud to see that the Armenians of South America are so strongly clung to their roots and are interested in Armenian folk songs. They not only bear Armenian culture in their souls, but also preserve and disseminate it,” Samvel Galstyan said in an interview with Hayern Aysor, adding that the Armenian communities of Uruguay and Argentina are consolidated and culturally active since they have choirs, orchestras and dance ensembles. There are also many Armenians who actively carry out their activities in the cultural life of the given community.

Our interlocutor emphasized that the Armenians of Uruguay and Argentina are always connected to the Homeland, are aware of all the events taking place in Armenia and wish to make their contributions to Armenia’s advancement.

Besides the concerts, Samvel Galstyan also had meetings with representatives of the Armenian communities, visited pan-Armenian organizations and gave interviews to radio stations.

Samvel Galstyan noted that when he was talking to his compatriots during his visit to South America, he found out that they attach great importance to the activities of the Ministry of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia, particularly the provision of textbooks to Armenian schools.

“As cultural figures, it is our duty to enhance and disseminate Armenian culture and maintain it a high level in both Armenia and abroad since the imperative of all that is very important now more than ever,” Samvel Galstyan concluded.
