Ministry of Diaspora has supported Syrian-Armenians in the education sector

According to Hayern Aysor, between the years 2012 and 2016, nearly 2,500 Syrian-Armenians residing in Armenia have addressed the RA Ministry of Diaspora with education-related issues. The RA Ministry of Diaspora holds extraordinary meetings to consider the Syrian-Armenians’ applications for their children’s admission to schools and kindergartens. Throughout the years, nearly 400 children have been extraordinarily placed in kindergartens of Yerevan, and nearly 2,000 Syrian-Armenian children attend general education schools across the country.

Between 2012 and 2013, the RA Ministry of Diaspora has organized education for 300 Syrian-Armenian children through the Syrian curriculum, in collaboration with Yerevan Municipality and with the support of the Social Democratic Hunchakian Party.

Eastern Armenian and Russian language courses have been organized for Syrian-Armenians having settled in Armenia.

Syrian-Armenians are admitted to Armenia’s universities through a facilitated procedure. The RA Ministry of Education and Science helps Syrian-Armenian students having left their studies behind at their universities in Syria and provides them with the opportunity to continue their studies at the same level in Armenia’s universities.

In the 2012-13 School Year, the Government of the Republic of Armenia and Hayastan All-Armenian Fund reimbursed the tuition fees for nearly 350 Syrian-Armenian students; in the 2013-14 School Year, nearly 400 Syrian-Armenian students’ tuition fees were reimbursed by the Government of the Republic of Armenia, the AGBU, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Government of Kuwait; the Government of the Republic of Armenia, the AGBU and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation reimbursed the tuition fees for 420 Syrian-Armenian students in the 2014-15 School Year and for 447 Syrian-Armenian students in the 2015-16 School Year.
