Inter-Agency Commission on Coordination of Syrian-Armenians’ Issues holds subsequent session

On August 29, the Inter-Agency Commission on Coordination of Syrian-Armenians’ Issues held its subsequent session moderated by RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan.

Representative of the Department of General Education of Yerevan Municipality Susanna Gasparyan delivered a report on the process of integration of Syrian-Armenian children in schools of Yerevan.

Representative of the programs of Oxfam Armenia Margarita Hakobjanyan, Programs Coordinator of Save the Children Foundation Siranush Vardanyan and programs correspondent of the Armenia Inter-Church Charitable Round Table Foundation of the World Council of Churches Alla Sargisova presented the activities carried out last year and the upcoming activities for this year. They also suggested creating the institute of social servants that would help prepare specialists who are smart and willing to work with the Syrian-Armenians.

Minister Hranush Hakobyan attached importance to the coordinated and faithful efforts of Yerevan Municipality, Oxfam Armenia, Save the Children Foundation and the Armenia Inter-Church Charitable Round Table Foundation of the World Council of Churches aimed at solving the Syrian-Armenians’ issues. Touching upon the current state of affairs in Syria, the Minister stated that the educational issues are being successfully solved through the church and non-governmental organizations for the time being. “Aleppo has six schools and nearly 200 school-age children. The Armenians are moving to Latakia and Kessab. We need to organize our assistance in such a way that if our compatriots decide to move to Armenia, we will be able to solve their problems with housing, employment, education and their social issues. I would like to ask the heads of structures, organizations and government agencies to have a heartfelt attitude and give exhaustive and guiding answers to the appeals, letters and requests of the Syrian-Armenians. Our common objective is to do everything we can to make sure they settle in the Homeland and become integrated quickly. I am certain that if every large organization manages to build a home for a Syrian-Armenian, then that will be a great help. We need to continue to work together. I thank you for the work that you have done,” the Minister of Diaspora added.
