No Armenians suffered during military coup in Turkey, according to preliminary data

According to preliminary data, nationals of the Republic of Armenia or Armenians didn’t suffer from the military coup attempt in Turkey, as reported the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On the evening of July 15, presses reported about a military coup attempt in Turkey. Military equipment was seen on the streets of Ankara and Istanbul, and shootings and explosions took place. Soldiers declared that they were going to take power in order to restore constitutional order and ensure the protection of human rights and freedoms.

According to preliminary data, 90 people were killed, and over 1,500 were arrested. Turkish presses report that the military coup was organized by Colonel Muharem Kose.

Turkey’s Prime Minister Binali Yildirim declared that the events taking place were illegitimate, while President Recep Tayyib Erdogan declared that the military coup had failed and would be completely repressed.
