Tbilisi-Armenians expressed gratitude with demonstration in front of German embassy in Georgia

On June 2, 2016, with a special resolution, the Parliament (Bundestag) of Germany recognized the Armenian Genocide of 1915-23 and condemned its organizer, that is, Turkey. A couple of hours after the German Bundestag took the historic decision, the “Hayartun” Center of the Armenian Diocese of Georgia and the Armenian Community of Georgia held a demonstration in front of the Embassy of Germany in Tbilisi to express their gratitude to Germany.
As reported the Armenian Community of Georgia to Hayern Aysor, the participants of the demonstration expressed their gratitude to the German government for taking a step to prevent the crime of genocide by officially recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide of 1915-23.
“We are grateful to the Parliament of Germany. With its decision, the German government affirmed once again its commitment to universal values and to the struggle for the punishment and prevention of the crime of genocide. What is very important is the fact that, though Germany was an ally to the genocidal Turks in 1915-23, today Germany publicly condemns the crime that was committed and emphasized the importance of universal recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide,” Director of “Hayartu” Center Levon Chidilyan said in his speech addressed to the gathered.
“Today the German authorities made a very important decision. They overcame the barrier that is called the Diaspora of millions of Turks who have migrated from Turkey to Germany. Germany clearly declared that it criticizes the Armenian Genocide. Germany condemns the Armenian Genocide of 1915-23, despite the fact that a part of the country’s electorate is against that condemnation. Today Germany made it clear that it will never stand with the countries that deny the Armenian Genocide and justify the crime of genocide. Georgia still doesn’t have millions of Turks living in the country. We hope the Georgian authorities join the civilized world and recognize and condemn the Armenian Genocide,” representative of the information department of the Armenian Community of Georgia Sadro Ohanyan declared in his speech addressed to the demonstrators.
Mikhail Avagyan, Giorgy Tumasyan and other representatives of the Armenian community of Tbilisi also expressed their words of gratitude during the demonstration.
